Manchester is now firmly one of England's biggest and most popular cities – not just for football or leisure attractions like The Trafford Centre, but for excellent property investment opportunities, according to Property Secrets.

And its appeal as a first rate investment location is likely to be further enhanced when the BBC completes its move north to MediaCityUK, the investment group said.

The North West city is doing well on several fronts, seeing a 2.7 per cent increase in retail turnover in the year to March 2011 and a 12.8 per cent leap in passenger numbers at Manchester Airport between February and March this year, the firm said.

Alan Forsyth, director of Property Secrets, said Manchester is an attractive alternative market to London with property almost half the price of that in the capital.

He said: “Demand for new properties in prime locations experiencing strong economic growth and increased job opportunities such as Manchester is on the up.”

One of the potential opportunities on Property Secrets’ list is Empress Mill, a trendy development only five minutes from MediaCityUK.

Empress Mill consists of one, two and three bed duplex apartments in an old mill conversion. Prices start from £65,000 for a 125 year leasehold.
